The Kindle Freetime Unlimited feature allows access to kid-friendly books, TV shows, movies, games, videos, and educational apps. Once parents log the child into the service, kids must have a password to exit the “Freetime.” Within this huge world of kid-friendly possibilities, parents can set daily time limits to make sure their children are not playing for too long. Or, parents can set limits to restrict kids from playing games or watching videos, even reading books. This service also disables making any in-app & game purchases and web browsing. Delving further into Kindle Freetime Unlimited, the service is stocked with educational materials that could be used for home schooling programs, tutoring resources, access to materials for remediation. Teachers will find this service extremely beneficial for locating common core materials, leveled readers, and supplemental readers. Parents can even set a certain goal for kids to reach in their academic areas before they can move on to playing games or watching movies. Reading books on the Kindle HS can always be an unlimited feature to encourage and foster a love of reading in your child! This feature is especially recommended as an important safety precaution for children ages 3-8. With so much inappropriate content and child predators on the internet, this feature is vital to your child’s safety and protection.

Kindle Kids Tablet Pros & Cons

The main drawback to this tablet is that it does not have a camera. You cannot take pictures or video. There is not a microphone either.  Kindle Fire HDX would be your next best bid if Camera and Skype are must-have for your kids. However, if you are buying this tablet for a child, then this is actually a nice benefit. More accessories with kids often means more things that come up broken. Less features is sometimes more when it comes to kids having access to tablets.

A secondary disadvantage is that buying a Kindle requires you to shop strictly Amazon. If you are more of a Google or Apple fan, then the Kindle will make you feel a bit limited. It is true that competition probably has more apps available than Amazon; however, we have all learned over the years that the majority of the thousands of apps out there really are not worth your time and precious storage space on your tablet.

Saving money is the main gain to purchasing the Fire HD tablet. Comparing this product to the Nexus and Apple Mini, the Kindle tablet is much more affordable! The three products side by side are almost identical in techi-features, so it only makes sense to go with the cheapest of the three which is the Kindle Fire HD by quite a lot of coin!

The MediaPad X1 is a 7″ phablet, which is a combination of phone and tablet in one. The X1 is the world’s slimmest 7″ model that has LTE and is Cat4-enabled.

The casing is impressive and made of full aluminum alloy. The 7″ high definition touch screen display offers 1200 x 1920 FHD LTPS with an 80% screen to body ratio.

A nice 1.6 GHz quad core processor powers this device and it runs on Android 4.2 Jelly Bean; which is a little bit disappointing as most of new introduced gadgets are in Android 4.4 Kit Kat at MWC.

One of the more astounding features of the MediaPad X1 phablet is that Huawei is claiming it has a 5000 mAh battery that provides 21 days of standby time, more than 5 days of continues use and reverse charging.

Huawei MediaPad X1 is the lightest and narrowest 7-inch tablet

Does the world need bigger smartphones? Huawei answers this question at MWC with the launch of its MediaPad X1, a 7-inch Android tablet that lets you make phone calls.

Huawei’s added a few neat software features, with our favorite one being the ability to scroll with one thumb while still gripping onto the touchscreen with the other thumb.

These days, Android OEMs can have some innovation and customize some “productivity features” with their tablet products. Read more …

Interesting that Engagdget, in the above article, thinks that this model beats some heavy hitters in mobile devices, such as, ASUS Fonepad 7, Kindle Fire HDX 7 and the latest Nexus 7. They consider it more usable than other large phones, and considering how slim and lightweight it is it doesn not skimp on features, in fact it is dully loaded and the fact it claims such mind blowing battery life hours in such a compact design is really incredible.

I am amazed that Huawei can come up with a 7″ screen Phablet. It’s definitely a “new” product category. I saw some 6″ Phablets in 2013, but can’t imagine you could have 7 or even 8″ one making phone calls? Anyway, people make phone calls with bluetooth headset or speaker phone. Who really holds a huge screen over your ear? Also I do what’s app, text more than voice calls these days, but typing on big screen is not my cup of tea.

And you? What’re your thoughts about these Huawei new Phablets?

New Apple iPad Mini 2012 Model Review: Your New Tablet Buddy

Despite Apple originally distancing themselves away from the 7″ screen tablet market, they have finally been drawn in to produce another fantastic tablet which again will push market leader, Samsung to the limit. The Apple iPad Mini manages to pack in all the same features and performance of the iPad 2, but packs it into a smaller shell, and displays it on a 7.9″ display. Although this display doesn’t have the Retina display of the other newer Apple devices such as the iPhone 5, 5th generation iTouch and New iPad, it is still very sharp and excellent quality. In fact, it is the fact that the screen display is smaller that the display is a big improvement on the regular iPad 10″, as it packs in more pixels per inch.

Advantages of a Smaller iPad

Ever found the larger tablets a little cumbersome, and harder to handle? Even with good covers, they can still seem a little too big, and this is where the iPad Mini comes into its own. Not only is it around quarter of the size of the New iPad, but it is over half as light too. This means for reading, watching video or simply playing games, the device is so much more pleasant to use. If you don’t need the larger screen of a 10″ tablet, then this size is a fantastic compromise.
