We hope you are finding these articles helpful as you learn about your new device.  Today we are discussing the Charging and Battery Life of your new Kindle Tablet.  If you would like to follow along, or watch the video, you may do so here.

Getting started

Your Kindle Fire device may not be fully charged when you receive it, so we recommend that you charge the battery fully before you begin setting it up.

To charge your Fire, plug the USB cable into the device, then into the power adapter and plug it into the wall.  It is recommended that you use the USB cable that was included with your device, and use the power adapter instead of plugging your Fire into your computer

While your Fire may be used with any appropriate USB cable, and can be charged from your computer, doing so may increase charging time.

The battery icon at the top of the screen will display a lightening bolt to indicate that your device is charging properly.

Checking your battery life

To see how much battery life your device has remaining, swipe down from the top of the device to open the “Quick actions” screen, then tap “settings” and “battery life”.

The battery percentage will provide an estimate of how much charge your device has left.  While your Fire tablet is optimized to provide long usage time, be aware that your battery life will vary, depending on device settings and usage.

Conserving your battery life

To conserve battery life, you can turn off features and adjust settings on your tablet.  From “Settings”, tap “Power management”.

Turn on “Smart Suspend”, which automatically turns off wireless connectivity when you aren’t using your device.

You can also manually schedule smart suspend activities.  In “Display settings” you can adjust your brightness, turn on “Auto brightness” to automatically adjust when the light changes.

Troubleshooting

If your tablet is not charging, first try restarting your device by holding down the power button on the side of the device.  If you are still having problems, try using a different power outlet.
